Jane Eyre I would not straightway have exchanged Lowood with whole its privations for Gateshead and all its daily luxuries. During Janes succession at Gateshead, although her surroundings were luxurious and her meals, health and clothing were adequate, she was hard-boiled cruelly by all her cousins, and was hurt bodilyly, and mentally by manipulate Reed. Her Aunt treated her as a companionable outcast, and disowned her as part of her family. She gave her as little as possible. In contrast, at Lowood notwithstanding though her psychological t reatment was better, her physical environme! nt was much worse than at Gateshead.
